What is a home meal delivery service for seniors?
A meal delivery service for seniors provides prepared meals that are delivered directly to your home, making it easier to enjoy nutritious food without the need for extensive grocery shopping or extensive meal preparation.
Meal delivery can be particularly helpful for older people who find cooking difficult, are recovering from illness or surgery, have limited mobility or simply want additional support with preparing meals.
Benetas works with meal delivery providers to help older people access suitable meals as part of their home care arrangements.
Not every meal delivery service operates in every location, so availability can depend on where you live and the services available in your area. The Benetas team can help you understand which government-funded meal service, and which meal delivery service providers may service your area.

Good nutrition is an important part of healthy ageing. Having regular access to nutritious meals can support your wellbeing while making it easier to remain independent at home.
Benetas can help you arrange a meal service that suits your lifestyle and take your preferences, dietary requirements and circumstances into consideration.
If you love cooking at home, but you just need a little extra help these days, perhaps Meal Preparation is the right service for you. Or if you’ve found that planning meals and shopping for all the ingredients has become more cumbersome lately, you might like to explore home meal delivery services. We often find a mix of services to cover most days of the week can really help older people to continue enjoying living at home.
Meal preparation support at home
Meal preparation support is an alternative to having fully prepared meals delivered. If you are able to cook but need some extra assistance, your home care services may include help with preparing meals in your own kitchen.
Support may include assistance with:
- Planning meals and preparing ingredients
- Preparing nutritious meals at home
- Following dietary requirements or preferences
- Preparing meals for later use
- Reheating or serving meals
- Maintaining safe and practical meal routines
The type of support available will depend on your individual needs, care plan and available Support at Home funding.
Meal delivery and meal preparation through the Support at Home program
Since 1 November 2025, the Support at Home program has replaced the previous Home Care Packages program. Meal preparation and delivered meals may be available as part of your approved Support at Home services, depending on your individual care plan and funding.
If you previously received services through a Home Care Package, you may still hear this term used when people talk about government-funded home care. Benetas can explain how the current Support at Home program applies to your circumstances and what meal services may be available.
If you haven’t been allocated a Support at Home package, you may be eligible for subsidised meal services through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP).

Dietary needs and nutrition support
Everyone has different tastes, nutritional needs, cultural backgrounds and dietary requirements that are considered when thinking about what we eat. When arranging senior meal delivery, it is important to consider any allergies, medical conditions, food preferences or texture requirements.
Your Benetas care partner can help you decide what meal delivery service provider is right for you and assist with developing a meal plan that is appropriate for your circumstances. Depending on the provider, menu and individual requirements, options may include meals suited to particular dietary needs or preferences.
If you have specific nutritional or medical requirements, your care partner can help you determine what additional support may be appropriate.
