What is a home care provider?
A home care provider is an organisation that offers services to support the health and wellbeing of older Australians to thrive independently at home for longer.
A good aged care provider is transparent about fees and costs, offers a comprehensive range of services and is large enough to offer care and support in your local area.
On this page you’ll find tips for choosing the right Provider for you, and learn more about us along the way.
Tips for choosing a provider
You’re not alone - talk to someone!
There are a few ways you can shop around for a Provider. Here are a few;
- Ask your family and friends if they can recommend a provider and talk through your options.
- Talk to 3 Providers that stood out to you in your initial research. Prepare a list of questions to ask, focusing on the criteria most important to you.
What questions do I ask so I can compare?
Think about what’s most important to you! It could be different for everyone. We’ve prepared a few topics that might kick start some questions for you:
Experience
Question - How long has the Provider been operating?
Benetas, here since 1948. Benetas has been supporting older Victorians for over 70 years. Our specialist experience gives you the comfort of knowing that we will be there well into the future.
Value for Money
Question - Does the Provider have any hidden fees?
Sometimes it’s not easy to calculate value. Some Providers offer cheaper service fees or lower management fees, but overcharge in areas like travel for their carers. Some providers have low service fees but have high minimum service hours.
As a truly Not-For-Profit organisation, we believe in transparency. We publish all our fees and prices for all to see and we try to explain it as simply as we can. We want you to understand as quickly as possible so we can do what’s important – care for you.
But if you ever have any questions about costs you don’t understand please talk to us and one of our helpful Client Advisors will be more than happy to explain in plenty of detail.

Location
Question - Does the Provider have carers and support close by?
Some Providers are located interstate and broker their carers through agency staffing.
At Benetas, we are a truly Victorian-based organisation with 1,600+ employees and 6 Home Care offices scattered throughout the State. We have a strong workforce with a team of exceptionally talented Workforce Coordinators who are passionate about delivering the most efficient and comprehensive care in your local area.
Range of Services
Question - Is the Provider a ‘one-stop-shop’?
It might be important to you that the Provider you choose offers a variety of choice and services so that you get a continuum of care as your needs change. If that’s the case, you need a Provider with a large portfolio of service types.
At Benetas, we offer a wide range of opportunity for you throughout your ageing journey. Discover our range here:

Approach to care
Question - How will I be supported by the Providers care model?
Over the past decade, emerging research has demonstrated the benefits of focussing on client independence. Traditional models of service delivery that focus on what a client can’t do rather than what they can, tend to lead to an over-reliance on services by clients, which has been linked with accelerated functional decline.
At Benetas, we show you the way and identify opportunities for you to reclaim your abilities, rebuild your routines, and live a fulfilling life full of self-accomplishment.
Quality and Safety
Question – How will you keep me safe?
At Benetas, creating a safe and supportive environment is our priority.
We employ skilled and compassionate staff, and maintain transparent communication with you and your family.
Adhering to industry standards and regulations, we continuously strive to enhance the overall quality of care and services we provide to older Australians.
