Dalkeith Heights has won an expanded Benetas Retirement Living Bowls Challenge, hoisting the trophy for the second straight year.
Bairnsdale’s Eastwood Retirement joined the competition this year, competing against Dalkeith Heights from Traralgon, Bridgewater Lake Retirement Estate from Roxburgh Park and St John’s Rise from Mooroolbark.
The representatives from Dalkeith Heights carried the day registering a total of 106 points, well clear of the second-placed Eastwood Retirement, which finished with 88 points.
The event was held at Narre Warren Bowls Club, which will continue to host the event in coming years, given its central location, relative to the competing villages.
Dalkeith Heights won last year’s event in Traralgon with St John’s Rise taking out the inaugural event, held in Mooroolbark, in 2024.
Benetas General Manager Strategy, Infrastructure and Housing Bruce Webb said the event was a huge success, particularly welcoming Eastwood Retirement into the fold.
“This event is more than just a chance to test your lawn bowl skills, it’s a fantastic opportunity to bring Benetas residents together from right across the state,” Mr Webb said.
“Regardless of the retirement village you call home, everyone is welcome with bonding and camaraderie on show for all involved.”
Dalkeith Heights Manager Sandy Komen described the event as a fantastic day of friendly competition and community spirit.
“The tournament once again showcased the strong and enjoyable rivalry between participating villages with players and supporters alike enjoying the social atmosphere both on and off the green,” Ms Komen said.
“Dalkeith Heights congratulates all participating villages and looks forward to defending the title again next year.”
This year, the event paid tribute to the late Peter Harry who founded the event as an employee at Bridgewater Lake Retirement Estate.
Benetas also operates The Oaks Retirement Community in Croydon and St Laurence Court Community in Bendigo as well as 13 residential aged care homes, home care and respite care.
