Benetas nurses garner medical supplies for Ukraine

Some thoughtful and proactive nurses from Benetas’ In Home Nursing Service team, led by Michelle Rogers, have collected some much needed medical supplies for Ukraine. The team have pulled together packaged medical supplies including scissors, bandages, syringes and saline bags all close to expiry or recently expired. Australian law prohibits the use of expired equipment, however items can still be repurposed and are desperately needed in places like war torn Ukraine and the surrounding countries where Ukrainians find themselves as refugees.

Benetas nurse, Mary Healy, was able to deliver the supplies to Katya, a local woman of Ukrainian descent, who has been working tirelessly supporting and facilitating the Ukrainian supply efforts out of Melbourne. Six boxes of equipment were promptly delivered to Katya’s home ready to be sent on.

Katya is grateful for the efforts and support from Benetas and Medical Pantry, a group that repurpose and redistribute expired equipment and stock. The supplies have been collected and will be shipped free of charge by Toll and DHL and airlifted to Poland.

A grateful Katya told Benetas, ‘Please be sure to say a huge thanks from me on behalf of the Ukrainian community in Melbourne, to everyone who helped get the boxes of equipment that you passed over to me.’

Benetas CEO Sandra Hills OAM went on to say, ‘Nurses are a really caring bunch and this is further evidence of that. A collection of small actions by the many can really make a difference and I am so proud of the compassion and drive of Mary, Michelle and her team to pull together medical supplies for the benefit of Ukrainian people in most need.’
